Comprehensive oral exam & new patient exam

A comprehensive exam gives you a clear picture of your oral health. We review your teeth, gums, jaw, bite, and medical history so you understand exactly what’s happening and what, if anything, needs attention. For many patients, this visit brings comfort and clarity — especially if it has been some time since their last checkup.

New patient exams follow the same thoughtful approach. We take time to learn what brought you in, listen to your concerns, and talk through options in simple, reassuring language. The goal is always a calm experience and a plan that feels manageable.

What a comprehensive exam supports

• Early detection of changes or concerns
• A clearer understanding of your oral health
• More predictable treatment planning
• A personalized baseline for long-term care

Why exams matter

Many dental issues begin quietly, without obvious pain or visible signs. Exams help identify early signs of decay, enamel wear, gum inflammation, and bite concerns before they become more complex or uncomfortable. When we catch concerns early, treatment is simpler, more predictable, and easier to fit into your routine. Exams also give you time to ask questions and talk through anything you’ve noticed at home.

What happens during an exam

Your visit typically includes a review of your dental and medical history, followed by a careful look at your teeth, gums, bite, and jaw joints. If needed, we may take digital X-rays or scans to see areas not visible clinically. Throughout the appointment, we explain what we see, discuss next steps if needed, and make sure you leave feeling informed, not rushed.
