Oral cancer screening
An oral cancer screening is a quick, painless part of your routine exam. We check the soft tissues of your mouth—including the tongue, cheeks, lips, gums, and throat—for early signs of changes that may need attention.
Many early symptoms are subtle and easy to miss at home. A regular screening helps us identify concerns early, when treatment is more predictable and outcomes are better.
What screenings help detect
• Sores that aren’t healing
• Lumps or swelling
• Spots that may require monitoring or referral
Why screenings matter
Oral cancer can develop without noticeable pain. A screening helps catch changes before they progress. This is especially important if you have a history of tobacco use, frequent alcohol consumption, or other risk factors—but screenings are recommended for everyone.
What happens during a screening
We gently examine the inside of your mouth and the tissues around your jaw and neck. If we see anything that needs monitoring, we’ll explain the next steps clearly so you feel informed and supported.
